The list of calibers grains and diameters of Sierra Sports Master Handgun Bullets is quite lengthy. These bullets are perfectly engineered to offer consistent and reliable expansion over a wide range of velocities.
One of the special features is the serrated power jacket on hollow cavity and hollow point bullets. Upon impact this feature allows the bullets to expand uniformly along the serration line creating maximum energy transfer and consistent weight retention. Regardless of the specific bullet needed Sierra provides an outstanding guarantee on the materials used and workmanship quality.

The 230 grain #8805 Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) SportsMaster bullets have been designed primarily for the 45 Caliber Automatic Colt Pistol (45 ACP) cartridge. This bullets has the Sierra’s Power Jacket and the same hollow point design as Sierra’s 9mm and 10mm JHP SportsMaster bullets. They are suitable also for the 45 Auto Rim and the 45 Colt cartridges. The 45 Colt may require special attention when sizing cases during reloading due to a slight difference in bullet diameters. Some early 45 Colt revolvers were made for bullets of .454 inch diameter. When loaded to maximum velocities this bullet is excellent for hunting up to large-size varmints and it is a very effective self-defense round. This bullet is an outstanding choice for all around use in the 45 ACP.
Despite its “soft point” title the Sierra 300 grain #8830 Jacketed Soft Point (JSP) SportsMaster is the single hardest bullet Sierra has produced. Utilizing a 6% antimony 4% tin 90% lead alloy core this 300 grain JSP will expand only on the toughest game when driven at absolutely top-end velocities of up to 1550 fps. Intended primarily for the strongest 45 Colt revolvers (Freedom Arms Dan Wesson and Ruger revolvers) the single-shot T/C Contenders and the 454 Casull revolvers this bullet is an excellent selection for the heaviest game on any handgunner’s agenda. Because of its length and solid construction this bullet cannot be used in Colt Single Action Army revolvers or their modern reproductions. This bullet was introduced by Sierra in 1994.
You asked for it so Sierra has provided it. Their new 140gr Tipped GameKing is designed for hunting from today’s newer cartridges using a 1-8” twist. Expansion is enhanced by the tip and penetration is regulated by the thick jacket giving spectacular results on a wide variety of game animals. Game from the size of whitetail to possibly elk and a multiple of bears in-between could be easily taken.
This bullet requires a barrel twist rate of 1×8” or faster.
All Sierra GameKing bullets are for hunting and all have boat tails. Their shapes include hollow point boat tail (HPBT) spitzer boat tail (SBT) and full metal jacket boat tail (FMJBT).
- medium to heavy weights in each caliber
- With their boat tail shapes GameKing bullets have high ballistic coefficients retain their velocities well and resist crosswinds and vertical winds well as they fly
- Designed for a combination of penetration and expansion in medium and heavy game animals for their calibers
Tipped – a synthetic tip integrated into the bullet design to improve ballistic coefficient(BC) /aerodynamics and providing expansion characteristics

Sierra's 175 gr Tipped GameKing is designed to be tough and used for heavy duty hunting work. It will hit like a hammer on big game from the great 270 Winchester as well as be right at home in any magnum cartridge. It will use a 1-8” or faster twist rate to stabilize because of its long length but the BC’s are also extremely high because of that. The higher BC’s make it very efficient in flight so it will give a high impact velocity at distance. This bullet requires a barrel twist rate of 1×8” or faster.

Sierra has enhanced a segment of the MatchKing line by adding the acetal resin tip thus crowning the Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet line. The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Another benefit is reliable feeding in magazine fed firearms.
While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy MatchKing and Tipped MatchKing bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing and Tipped MatchKing bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet Blitz or Varminter counterparts.
The #7169 was introduced in January 2015.
This bullet requires a barrel twist rate of 1×10? or faster.
