The 30 caliber 125 grain MatchKing (#2121) was created as a flat based bullet for the .300 AAC Blackout cartridge designed for the AR platform. With the addition of the acetal resin tip to improve ballistic coefficient this Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet is designed to expand the diversity in their lightweight .30 caliber offerings for AR and bolt action chamberings. The jacket was specifically designed to handle velocities ranging up through common .30 caliber mid-level cartridges.

While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy MatchKing and Tipped MatchKing bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing and Tipped MatchKing bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet Blitz or Varminter counterparts.

Tipped MatchKing bullets are an evolution of the MatchKing profile featuring an acetal resin tip designed to reduce drag and improve ballistic efficiency. The result is flatter trajectories reduced wind drift and reliable feeding in magazine-fed rifles—while maintaining the accuracy standards Sierra is known for. Tipped MatchKing bullets are designed for target shooting and are not recommended for most hunting applications.

Sierra has enhanced a segment of the MatchKing line by adding the acetal resin tip thus crowning the Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet line. The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Another benefit is reliable feeding in magazine fed firearms.

Originally designed as a varmint bullet for smaller capacity 25 caliber cartridges this 87 grain Spitzer bullet #1610 has taken on an expanded role. It turned out to be extremely accurate at all velocity levels making it suitable for loading in the entire range of 25 caliber cartridges. This bullet gives outstanding performance as a varmint bullet at high velocities but may also be used as a medium game bullet from smaller-capacity cartridges such as the 250-3000 Savage or 257 Roberts.

Varminter is a classification of bullets is designed specifically for rapid expansion and instant kills on larger varmints and small game. The shapes of bullets in this classification include hollow point (HP) spitzer pointed flat base (SPT) and semi-pointed (SMP). Bullets in this classification have thin jackets to enhance expansion but with sufficient strength to be fired at the highest muzzle velocities in the cartridges for which they are intended. Bullets labeled as Blitz are designed for medium velocity (under 3600 fps).

Hollow Point – is a bullet shape used for the MatchKing bullets as well as a number of Varminter GameKing and Pro-Hunter bullets for hunting. The Hollow Point shape has an opening in the nose which depending on the use of the bullet may be designed for complete fragmentation controlled expansion or no expansion at all (MatchKing). With the wide range of Hollow Point bullet performance capabilities proper bullet selection for a particular use is crucial to ensure the desired performance in the field.
