Taylors and Company has reproduced the 1872 Open-Top Early Model Conversion Revolver in .45 Long Colt. Although this model appeared to be a conversion it was actually one of Colt’s first new models specifically designed for cartridges. It has a case hardened frame with blue barrel finish It features a walnut Navy size grip with brass back-strap and trigger guard. It comes with a 5-1/2″ barrel and holds 6 rounds of 45 Long Colt. It weighs only 2.32lbs and has a blade front sight with rear sight on back of barrel.
This Remington Conversion is a perfect reproduction from the historic period when popular black powder revolvers were being converted into cartridge revolvers. Although manufactured as a an already converted cartridge revolver, these copies still feature an easy transition from blackpowder to centerfire cartridges. The Remington Conversion in .45LC allows a shooter to switch from .45LC to .44 black powder by removing the breech plate, cartridge cylinder, and replacing them both with a spare black powder cylinder. Along with the original conversion design, these revolvers retain other original features: the forged frames are dovetailed to allow the loading gate assembly to slide into place and a modern ejector rod incorporated into the original black powder loading lever with a small notch cut into the loading lever itself.
